Algeria’s Achievement of Good Health and Well-Being

While it focuses on Algeria’s progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being, I believe this paper captures my experience as a French and International Health major. It was written as a final project for my Global Health course which was one of my favorite classes at Clemson. The paper includes recommendations for infrastructural improvements and public health campaign efforts, as well as a brief reference to Algeria’s history and complicated relationship with France. Said relationship is the reason for my selection of Algeria as my country of choice; when I studied abroad in Montpellier, France, which is on the southern coast, I was enrolled in a culture course which focused on the harmful impacts from colonization which affect both nations today. I feel as if the history between these countries has major implications upon the determinants of health, the functioning of systems, and how they impact the current health outcomes of France and Algeria. This paper showcases a holistic, progress-oriented overview of a nation's healthcare system. And it is this viewpoint that I will be carrying into my future career.

Syphilis Prevention Infographic

This graphic was a portion of a two part project for my Human Health and Disease course. I was required to give an elevator pitch presentation on an infectious disease of choice, with a sixty second limit, and an audience-appropriate, visually attractive handout with important information about that disease. The disease I chose was syphilis and I felt as if this was the first time I truly mastered scientific material; I was able to stand in front of my classmates and present on a subject clearly, concisely, and confidently. It challenged my health communication skills, aided in my conceptualization of campaigning for population health efforts, and broadened my understanding of the impact public health can have upon disease outcomes.
